Posted on September 15, 2009 by admin

Poker tells form an integral part of the poker strategy as they can be used by players to discern their opponents’ frame of mind, and thus gain extra information about their card hand. This can be used to gauge whether they have a strong hand with good cards or a weak hand, whether they have any specific trump cards that may give them an edge over others and so on and so forth. Poker tells can manifest in the form of physical responses to a new hand, clues, behavioral patterns, mannerisms and characteristic gestures. There are some common rules to the manners in which people behave which can help to “read” opponents. However it is important to remember that these assumptions are not always applicable and professionals in the field often master the art of giving false signals and purposely regarding in specific ways to fool their opponents. In this article we shall discuss two of the most common poker tells.

Anxious, nervous behavior is one of the most prominent tells in poker. People become nervous when they expect a bad hand or receive a set of cards that are less than favorable. Anxiety at a bad hand can manifest in a number of tangible ways such as the throat becoming dry, the heart rate increasing significantly, the pupils of the eyes becoming dilated and a constant twitching of various body muscles. Many a time players react to a specific hand by responding to them in subtle, yet noticeable physical ways. If the chest expands outwards in a grand manner it is often because the player has been dealt an impressive hand yet if the chest heaves in and out it can be because the player has received cards that might compromise his or her position. The pitch of the voice too is indicative of the level of anxiety being experienced by the individual. A suddenly high-pitched voice is an indicator of increased alarm and tenseness. Many expert players often fake anxiousness to appear nervous and bothered.

Poker Tips to Help You Keep and Pile the Chips 0

Posted on March 21, 2009 by admin

Poker TipsLike in any other game, you strive to be a better poker player. If you play on a weekend with friends or you make poker a lifestyle or a profession, you definitely don’t want to lose those chips.

Here are some tips or rules of thumb when trying to become a better poker player:

Know When to Play the Hand, Know When to Fold. As a beginner, you want to play poker and you have this tendency to play every hand in front of you. This will be good if you always win but you may end up losing money. Look at the scenario and fold if the stake of losing it is a bit high. As you go along, you will learn what are the best starting hands for you, and Seven Deuce is never one of them.

Don’t Drink and Play. It’s not that you don’t have fun while playing but remember that you need to be sharp so you will be bringing the pot home. A few drinks may help you relaxed but it might also mean you playing loosely. Step on the brakes with those glasses and keep your eye on the table and your hands to your card.

Just Bluffing for the Sake of Bluffing is a No-no. Beginners might think of bluffing as a necessary skill in poker. This is true but it there are situations when bluffing best applies. You don’t just bluff for the sake of bluffing. Always remember that other poker players can read you and you may just end up giving away those chips.

Skip the Game when in a Bad Mood. You don’t want to start on a tilt. You might just play very emotional when you had a rough day at home or at work. During a game, if you feel that you are on a tilt, take a breather by standing up and release all the tension in you.

Pay Attention. Pay attention to your cards and to the cards on the table. It will also be best if you can learn how to read other players since this can be to your advantage. Observe when other players check, bet, win, or lose since your game will depend on how you read them.
